Top 10 Important LD Caucus Points
1. If you got a blue or yellow/orange card at your precinct caucus, you’re probably an alternate or a delegate. You will be contacted before the caucus by the Obama campaign to inform you about training for the caucus process. The Democratic Party will also contact you. If there were problems with your registration, or you voted in the wrong place, someone might challenge your credentials, however. If you didn't receive a card (or you lost it), but did fill out the delegate form at the February caucus, don't worry - you'll be able to get in. 2. Attend any caucus process training available to you. The more you know, the better. Details of training will be announced later. 3. On the day of the 45th LD caucus (April 5), please plan to arrive early (before 10AM) as there is a lot to do, and setup/cleanup requires people! 4. If you aren’t busy helping register attendees or helping determine if all needed delegates or alternates arrived, you will find conversations about the candidates starting. If you see someone talking about someone other than Senators Obama and Clinton, it’s an opportunity to get a delegate for Obama. Make sure you’ve got Obama points in mind. 5. The Clinton campaign has made public statements that imply that they might attempt to convert delegates to their candidate’s side. Any of this would happen before the final tally, before splitting into Obama/Clinton groups within each congressional district. 6. The 45th legislative district doesn’t fit entirely in one congressional district. Parts of the legislative district are in the 1st congressional district or the 8th congressional district. 7. If you hope to proceed to the congressional district (1st or 8th) or WA state caucus in Spokane, there will probably be a form to fill out. We’ll pass along details as available. 8. Stay positive! 9. You will need to know your congressional district number and your precinct. Knowing this before the caucus will save time at the front desk and later when it’s time to split. 10. Once everyone is split, there will be voting. Be ready to vote for Senator Obama! There will be a chance to change your vote, but this is your chance to help others unite with our campaign. Then, when voting for delegates to go onto the CD caucus, try to choose people who seem firm in their commitment to Obama. |
